What is Nutritional Medicine

Nutrition is the foundation of how our bodies function down to the cellular level, with every meal presenting as an opportunity to harness the benefits of ‘food as medicine’ in any number of delightful combinations.

Macronutrients; carbohydrates, proteins & fats fuel our bodies, providing the energy we need, however it’s the micronutrients; the vitamins & minerals that allow these cellular biochemical reactions to occur and to maintain homeostasis [noun; the tendency towards a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes].

After struggling throughout my adolescent years with an eating disorder in which I used food deprivation as a form of self-harm, my passion for holistic health was ignited. I was inspired by the practitioners who played a part in my healing process, and I experienced first-hand how powerful the healing is through natural therapies and good nutrition. What I once used as a form of self-harm I now embrace as nourishment, enjoyment, connection and celebration!

Ironically, my disordered eating lead me to study nutritional medicine, and now with a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition under my belt I am excited to share with you my passion, my knowledge and my experience to help you get to the best health and state of wellness possible.

Deficiencies or excessive intakes of macro and micronutrients can lead to manifestations of ill health, ranging from fatigue, dry skin, brittle nails, hair loss, changes to mood, sleep patterns, acne, eczema, bloating, pain, hormonal imbalances, infertility, changes to weight and body composition as well as immune suppression.

As a nutritionist I work alongside you, practicing in a holistic way; one that respects the interaction of mind, body & environment, and, in accordance with the six naturopathic principals;

I have previous and personal experience with mental health, namely anxiety & depression, as well as gut-related conditions and womens hormones (fertility, menstrual irregularities, pre-menstrual symptoms, endometriosis and PCOS). However, I am also so passionate about all facets of nutrition & the human body, particularly in supporting new mumma-goddesses-to-be (pre-conception, post-natal care – for the whole family and the generations to come!).

I am currently practicing within the Thrive Wellness Hub located at 9 Robert Street Wickham, close to the beautiful beaches of Newcastle NSW. I also offer Skype and Facetime consultations so that I can be available to people from all over the world.
