What is a Functional Medicine Detox Program?

A Functional Medicine Detox Program is not a cleanse. It does not include any teas, shakes or weight loss pills that promise unattainable results but rather includes nutritionals, wholefoods and lifestyle practices under the care of a trained professional to guide you through and personalize your program to your own needs and to get you closer towards your health goals.

Signs your body may need a detox:

  • Digestive Complaints i.e bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhoea

Who Should NOT Detox

  • Current drug users or someone on multiple pharmaceutical medications - detox may effect metabolism of certain medications

  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding - a detox is encouraged during preconception that is at least 3-6months BEFORE you start trying to fall pregnant. This goes for both men and women

The entire package is valued at $320 (not including supplements). Additional supplementation is encouraged, but not essential. This is at an additional cost to the client.

The Three Stages

Week 1 - A focus on wholefoods, selecting nourishing foods that aid the liver, kidneys and bowels to eliminate waste products efficiently. This week you will learn SO much about the power of food as medicine

Week 2 - We start to cycle between low carb/ketogenic diet and a moderate carb diet. This allows your body to begin utilising both fats and carbohydrates for fuel. The break down of fats release stored toxins that will further add to the detoxification process.

Week 3 - We throw into the mix some intermittent fasting, this further encourages a state of ketosis that mobilises fatty acids to be burned for energy. Intermittent fasting has benefits on balancing blood sugars, adding to longevity and health span, improving brain function as well as autophagy which is a process of cellular ‘spring cleaning’ and cellular renewal.

The final stage will be your follow up consultation where we will talk you through how best to come off a detox and how to manage a wholefoods based diet long term.

About the Supplements

Multivitamin and Mineral complex contains all essential minerals and vitamins to help support detoxification, enhance cellular function, maintain nutritional needs and provide antioxidants to support you throughout the program.

Probiotics have been shown to support heavy metal detoxification, enhance bowel and digestive health, metabolism, support brain function & cognition and strengthen immunity.

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) works on the liver to detoxify and eliminate. NAC is also needed to produce glutathione the body’s major antioxidant.

About the Consultation

These are in depth discussions where we talk about your goals, current concerns, symptoms and expectations. I gain a detailed health history, review body systems and how they function as well as your current diet and lifestyle to help tailor the meal plan and program to suit your individual needs. The initial will assess your goals and aims for doing the detox and the follow up is there to talk through your progress and to educate you on where to go from there to get continued support.

About the Meal Plan

The meal plan is based upon eating 3 main meals across the day and limits snacking. This is so the body is able to digest and utilise nutrients effectively and to give space between meals for the migrating motor complex (MMC) to kick in, this is the bodys self cleaning as the MMC acts as a broom to gently sweep through the bowels. The 3 main meals are nutrient dense and satiating to keep you full and with balanced blood glucose and humming hormones across the day!

About the Oil

Wild Orange Essential oil is known for its uplifting, energising and purifying properties. As its made from the peel itself, not the flesh, It contains D-Limonene that helps to stimulate detoxification via the lymphatic system and liver. Its bitter properties act on the gall bladder to support fat digestion and can reduce symptoms of excessive gas and abdominal bloating. It works on the mood to help relieve feelings of anxiety or depression and is known to help support immunity.
